This Connemara Marble Cake server is handcrafted by Eric Byrne, a second generation master stone mason with over twenty years experience working with the finest marble and granite from all over the world.
Eric has always had a passion for indigenous Irish stone. Each piece of stone used in Eric’s work is carefully chosen from selected Irish quarries and then entirely designed and handcrafted at the Hennessy & Byrne workshop in Dunboyne, Co.Meath. The ancient Irish stone used in Eric’s work was formed up to 900 million years ago, a fact which drives Eric in his efforts to capture the essence and beauty of these hidden treasures of nature in order to create truly unique gifts.
Connemara Marble is world renowned for its unique green colour, and its distinctive swirling veins of green, sepia and grey with the added sparkle of crystalline mica. Geologists estimate that the formation of Connemara Marble dates back 900 million years to the Precambrian Age.
This hidden treasure is found in the ancient marble quarries nestled among the ‘Twelve Bens’ in Connemara, Co. Galway. It is said that this rare marble reflects the ever-changing colours of the Emerald Isle, its landscape, mountains, lakes and coastline and as such no two pieces of Connemara Marble are alike.
Steeped in myth and mystery Connemara Marble is said to bring serenity to those who keep it close and is also the traditional gift between families who vow friendship through generations.
The Connemara Marble used in our giftware is quarried from the ancient marble quarries owned by the Joyce family in Recess, Co. Galway.
